Biology is a subject taught within the general science curriculum in the early stages, and then branches off to become an elective standalone course in higher level grades, such as in Grades 10, 11, and 12. Biology is a broad course but one that is unified through a single field that looks at organisms in life. The subjects covers life at multiple levels, ranging from the molecular level to the organizational level. Grade 12 Biology is typically a prerequisite for university admissions for Science programs

The areas of study typically covered in high school biology include, amongst other areas, human body systems, evolution, molecular genetics, reproduction and cell division, ecology, and others.
